About QPE Assistant

(Version: 1.0.1)

Origins

QPE Assistant was conceived during a conversation with my wife, a QSD and QSP certified Civil Engineer at Hanna Brunetti, an engineering firm in the San Francisco Bay Area.

After completing her QSD and QSP training for the 2022 Construction General Permit (CGP), she was struck by the manual effort required to determine if a site was predicted to have an upcoming qualifying precipitation event (QPE). This process, which involved loading web pages from the National Weather Service (NWS) and performing manual analysis of precipitation probabilities and quantities, was time-consuming, especially for more than a few sites. She wished for a tool that could automate this task.

My background is in Software Engineering and my company specializes in custom applications.

I said, "You know, our team could build that..." Thus, QPE Assistant was born.

Mission

QPE Assistant aims to simplify the workflow for QSDs and QSPs by providing automated QPE predictions using real-time data from the National Weather Service (NWS), reducing the manual labor involved, and minimizing potential errors. Our tool is designed to streamline compliance with the 2022 CGP requirements, saving time and enhancing accuracy.

Current Status

From its initial Beta release, QPE Assistant has evolved into a robust tool now available for production use. We are proud to support thousands of QSDs and QSPs across California with our automated QPE predictions.
